1,4-Bis(8-quinolyloxymethyl)benzene
Steel, P.J.; Al-Mandhary, M.R.A. (2004)
The two quinoline rings of the title compound are differently inclined to the plane of the central benzene ring. The intermolecular packing involves C—H···N and π-π stacking interactions. [Journal Article]

The 14 MeV N-D analysing power
Brock, John Edward (1977)
Restricted Item. Print thesis available in the University of Auckland Library or available through Inter-Library Loan. The angular distribution of the analysing power of deuterium for elastically scattered 14.1 MeV polarized neutrons has been measured. The polarized neutrons are produced by polarization transfer in the T(d, n)4 He reaction initiated by 150 keV deuterons. The vector polarized... [Thesis or Dissertation]

1D and 3D models of auto-regulated cerebrovascular flow
Moorhead, K.T.; Moore, S.M.; Chase, J.G.; David, T.; Fink, J. (2004)
doi: 10.1109/IEMBS.2004.1403261The Circle of Willis (CoW) is a ring-like structure of blood vessels at the base of the brain that distributes arterial blood to the cerebral mass. 1D and 3D CFD models of the CoW have been created to simulate clinical scenarios, such as occlusions in afferent arteries and absent circulus vessels. Both models capture cerebral haemodynamic auto-regulation using a Proportional-Integral... [Conference Paper]

1D and 3D models of cerebrovascular flow
Moore, S.M.; Moorhead, K.T.; Chase, J.G.; David, T.; Fink, J. (2005)
The Circle of Willis is a ring-like structure of blood vessels found beneath the hypothalamus at the base of the brain. Its main function is to distribute oxygen-rich arterial blood to the cerebral mass. One-dimensional (1D) and three-dimensional (3D) Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models of the Circle of Willis have been created to provide a simulation tool which could be used to... The 2003 New Zealand wineries’ survey
Christensen, David; Hall, C Michael; Mitchell, Richard (2004)
In 1997/98 a survey was conducted of New Zealand wineries with respect to their attitudes towards wine tourism and their relationship to key wine and food tourism stakeholders (Hall & Johnson, 1998). The survey was the first national level survey of the supply of the wine tourism product conducted in the world. The present paper presents the results of a slightly modified version of the... The 2008 Olympic Games : leveraging a "best ever" games to benefit Beijing
Tian, Jing (2006)
This Thesis undertakes a leverage analysis of mega-events in the context of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. A leverage analysis apparently different from a impact analysis; it focuses on how to maximize the potential positive impacts and minimize the negative impacts for an event that will be held in the future. To analyze the circumstance of the Beijing Olympics that are amendable to... [Thesis or Dissertation]

3-D Scene Reconstruction from Multiple Photometric Images
Forne, Christopher Jes (2007)
This thesis deals with the problem of three dimensional scene reconstruction from multiple camera images. This is a well established problem in computer vision and has been significantly researched. In recent years some excellent results have been achieved, however existing algorithms often fall short of many biological systems in terms of robustness and generality. The aim of this research was...

A 3-approximation algorithm for the subtree distance between phylogenies
Bordewich, M.; McCartin, C.; Semple, C. (2008)
In this paper, we give a (polynomial-time) 3-approximation algorithm for the rooted subtree prune and regraft distance between two phylogenetic trees. This problem is known to be NP-complete and the best previously known approximation algorithm is a 5-approximation. We also give a faster fixed-parameter algorithm for the rooted subtree prune and regraft distance than was previously known. [Journal Article]

3D Reconstruction Using Shape from Photometric Stereo and Contours
Chen, Chia-Yen; Klette, Reinhard (2003)
You are granted permission for the non-commercial reproduction, distribution, display, and performance of this technical report in any format, BUT this permission is only for a period of 45 (forty-five) days from the most recent time that you verified that this technical report is still available from the original CITR web site; http://citr.auckland.ac.nz/techreports/ under terms that include...In this work, we further discuss an approach to 3D shape recovery by combining photometric stereo and shape from contours methods. Surfaces recovered by photometric stereo are aligned, adjusted and merged according to a preliminary 3D model obtained by shape from contours. Comparisons are conducted to evaluate the performances of different methods. It has been found that the proposed... [Report]

3D models of blood flow in the cerebral vasculature
Moore, S.M.; David, T.; Chase, J.G.; Arnold, J.; Fink, J. (2006)
The circle of Willis (CoW) is a ring-like arterial structure located in the base of the brain and is responsible for the distribution of oxygenated blood throughout the cerebral mass. To investigate the effects of the complex 3D geometry and anatomical variability of the CoW on the cerebral hemodynamics, a technique for generating physiologically accurate models of the CoW has been created... 3D time-lapse imaging of polygonal patterned ground in the McMurdo dry valleys of Antarctica
Godfrey, M.J.; Bannister, M.T.; Nobes, D.; Sletten, R.S. (2008)
We surveyed four sets of polygons at 0.5 m line spacing using 100 and 200 MHz antennas for 3D GPR imaging at two field locations in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica, one in Victoria Valley and the other in Beacon Valley. The aim was to use 3D GPR and time-lapse 3D GPR to resolve subsurface structure and PPG process activity over the thaw season of polygonal patterned ground (PPG) in... [Conference Paper]

65 THz beat frequency observed from a scalar modulation instability experiment
Kruhlak, Robert; Wong, Gordon; Clark, Heather; Leonhardt, Rainer; Harvey, John; Knight, J C; Wadsworth, W J; Russell, P St. J (2005)
Items in ResearchSpace are protected by copyright, with all rights reserved, unless otherwise indicated. Previously published items are reproduced in accordance with the copyright policy of the publisher. We have observed an optical modulation with a period of about 15 fs by beating the anti-stokes wave and the pump wave exiting a photonic crystal fibre. These results confirm the coherence of the sidebands generated by scalar modulation instability in the normal dispersion regime. Future experiments will be conducted to measure the beating of the stokes and the anti-stokes waves. [Conference Paper]

7,8-Dihydroneopterin-mediated protection of low density lipoprotein, but not human macrophages, from oxidative stress
Firth, Carole Anne (2006)
Any lipoproteins and cells present in the inflammatory environment of atherosclerotic plaques are likely to be exposed to high levels of oxidative stress. As 7,8-dihydroneopterin (7,8-NP) is synthesized by interferon-γ (IFN-γ)-activated macrophages, this pteridine is also thought to exist at sites of inflammation. 7,8-NP s in vivo role remains controversial, but numerous in vitro...
