The K-complex and slow oscillation in terms of a mean-field cortical model
Wilson, M. T.; Steyn-Ross, D. Alistair; Sleigh, J. W.; Steyn-Ross, Moira L. (2006)
We use a mean-field macrocolumn model of the cerebral cortex to offer an interpretation of the K-complex of the electroencephalogram to complement those of more detailed neuron-by-neuron models. We interpret the K-complex as a momentary excursion of the cortex from a stable low-firing state to an unstable high-firing state, and hypothesize that the related slow oscillation can be considered as... KERMIT: A constraint-based tutor for database modeling
Suraweera, P.; Mitrovic, A. (2002)
KERMIT is an intelligent tutoring system that teaches conceptual database design using the Entity-Relationship data model. Database design is an open-ended task: although there is an outcome defined in abstract terms, there is no procedure to use to find that outcome. So far, constraint based modelling has been used in a tutor that teaches a database language (SQL-Tutor) and a system that... [Conference Paper]

Kant's Departure from Hume's Moral Naturalism
Saunders, Josiah Paul (2007)
This thesis considers Kant's departure from moral naturalism. In doing so, it explores the relationship between ethics, naturalism, normativity and freedom. Throughout this exploration, I build the case that Kant's ethics of autonomy allows us to make better sense of ethics than Hume's moral naturalism. Hume believes that morality is ultimately grounded in human nature. Kant...
